VICTORIous Collection...

Victoria Beckham
Spring/Summer 2012

Victoria debuted her latest collection at New York Fashion week...and it is a stunner!
Famous magazine writes, her designs were "sleek and minimal" with Victoria putting her own "glam spin on the sportswear trend". Some of the dresses are featured with what looks like the reversal of the sportswear razor-back top at the front of the garment.
Critics have described this Spring collection as "glossy and acomplished", and I tend to agree. She has taken sportswear from drab to fab, with gorgeous material creating voluminous jackets. There is a distinct contrast between the muted shades of the jackets to the vibrant orange and royal navy blues of the more structured dresses. These figure-hugging pieces compliment the model's figures in a way that is classic and sophisticated. However, I do not like the dresses which feature the checkered pattern, the material reminds me of something that I would see used as a tablecloth. It just doesn't seem to fit in well with the other luxe material used for the jackets. Overall though, I think it is a great collection and she deserves merit for her designs.

What you trippin on...

So, not a huge American Idol fan...now I see they have a different version out, the X Factor. I gave it a quick look last night, and super glad that I did. One artist stuck in my mind since watching the show. His song, and his raw talent has me watching the rest of the series...in hope of him winning!

Words of Wisdom...

I received a small magazine in the mail today, which was seconds away from being chucked in the bin because I assumed it was junk mail...but then I got reading. It turns out, this little magazine was a gem of a read.I even did a word find puzzle which I don't think I have done for years. On each page there were jokes and lots of feel-good material. On one page, I found an article entitled "Balancing act" and wanted to share it straight away :)

"Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling five balls. You name them work, family, health, friends and spirit - and your'e keeping them all in the air.
You'll soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. The other four balls- family, health, friends and spirit- are made of glass. If you drop one of these, it will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged or even shattered. You must understand that, and strive for balance in your life...heres how"

1. Don't undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others. It's because we are different that each of us is special.

2. Don't set your goals by what others deem important. Only you know what's best for you.

3. Don't take for granted the things closest to your heart. Cling to them as you would your life, for without them life is meaningless.

4. Don't let your life slip through your fingers by living in the past or for the future. By living one day at a time, you live all the days of your life.

5. Don't give up when you still have something to give. Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying.

6. Don't be afraid to admit that you are less than perfect. It's this fragile thread that binds us together.

7. Don't be afraid to encounter risks. It's by taking chances that we learn how to be brave.

8. Don't shut love out of your life by saying it's impossible to find time. The quickest way to receive love is to give...the fastest way to lose love is to hold it too tightly...the best way to keep love is to give it wings!

9. Don't run through life so fast that you forget not only where you have been, but also where you're going.

10. Don't forget that a person's greatest emotional need is to feel appreciated.

11. Don't be afraid to learn. Knowledge is weightless, a treasure you can always carry easily.

12. Don't use time or words carelessly. Neither can be retrieved. Life is not a race, but a journey to be savoured each step of the way.

Soul Food for a Rainy Day...

I am sitting at my desk with a hot water bottle under my feet keeping me warm, and I got thinking about life. At times we get so caught up in wanting everything to be perfect. We strive on a regular basis to get everything balanced in life, with work, health, relationships, friendships and all the other things that come with it. I don't believe things need to be perfect in all areas of our lives, sometimes we are ahead of things, sometimes we are behind, and sometimes things just are what they are.
Take a step back...
Think about the things in life that make you smile and bring you joy...
make a list,
keep it,
and revisit that list whenever you are in doubt, or feel that life isn't quite what you want it to be...
and you might be surprised...
by how many special moments life has to offer that you may have forgotten.

Here's my list...so far...in no specific order :)

  • Drinking chocolate milk from a wine glass in the bath, with bubbles..you feel so fancy :)
  • Puppies...enough said.
  • Talking on the phone with parents or friends until your ear gets hot and you swear all the phone's radiation has half cooked your brain!
  • Bringing people treats...just because you love them and for no other reason.
  • Music
  • Remembering something funny from ages ago and still finding it just as funny!
  • The beach
  • Driving in summer with all the windows down and not really knowing where your driving to.
  • Picnics in the garden
  • Spontaneous things you do, where you haven't made any plans, have no expectations...and they turn out so well.
  • Daisy chains
  • Pancakes for dinner...or any breakfast at dinner time :)
  • Walking down the river with a coffee and my mum + the dogs.
  • Sleeping in...when you were supposed to get up, but then finding out you don't have to.
  • Eating chocolate mousse in bed.
  • Climbing a tree like you did when you were a kid
  • Random cartwheels
  • A compliment from a stranger
  • Flowers!
  • Smelling something and being reminded so clearly of a memory.
  • Laughing...and trying so hard not to laugh that you make that kind of snorting noise when you eventually crack.
  • Being with someone and thinking there is no one else you would rather be with.
  • Red Liquorice &
  • Hugs :)

and the list goes on...

Sheer Beauty...

Some people worry about the transparency of some fabrics instead of embracing it. Sheer fabric can add an elegant and sophisticated look to any garment. The sheer fabric can look fantastic in the warmer months especially Spring! The Dolce & Gabbana, Spring 2011 collection demonstrates the versatility of sheer fabric and when its combined with beautiful lace detailing...its a win-win!

The Graffiti Creator

I like graffiti if its done well, not just tagging an old fence, but the proper work done by artists.I discovered this site online which allows you to design your own name or logo in graffiti style. There are several fonts to select, from throwups to bubble letters to wildstyles. The different tools allow you to further enhance your design so you can change colours, size and also add in details. Its fun to try out..check out the website and give it a go!
